The Masters Round

The Masters Round, found at the national level and in some states, is an optional oral presentation. The top-scoring individuals (4 at the national level) are given 30 minutes to prepare presentations about a certain topic. Then, each one has at most 11 minutes to give his/her oral response to the panel of judges. After the presentation, the judges can ask questions. The entire presentation, including questions, can take no longer than 15 minutes. Calculators ARE allowed.

Since I myself have never experienced the Masters Round, I can give no reliable advice about it. The official Mathcounts website, however, tells us, "This competition values creativity and oral expression as well as mathematical accuracy. Judging of presentations is based on knowledge, presentation and the response to judges’ questions."

If you have participated in the Masters Round and would like to contribute to this article, we'd be glad to consider your advice. See Contact Us.
